LED Tube Replacement…Easier Done Than Said!
Many people are under the misconception that replacement of old-school-style fluorescent U Shape lights with modern-day LED lighting technology is a cumbersome, time-consuming and budget-busting endeavor. Not so! In fact, it’s far from the truth!
The unexpected ease and compatibility of converting to energy efficient LED light tubes is a virtual snap. Fluorescent U Shape light fixtures are fully compatible with all of LED Corporations, Inc.’s U Shape bulbs as the bi-pin socket connectors on the tube ends are identical. The process of changing the bulbs is the same – – a handy ladder, the ability to twist the replacement bulbs in their respective sockets and bingo…job done!
However, as in most significant upgrades in today’s fast evolving technology world, there’s one detail that must be addressed. The old-style, clunky, buzzing fluorescent ballasts – – some call it a “starter” – – that powered the fluorescents must be disconnected. This amounts to no more than disconnecting the wires and re-routing them so as to be able to energize the LED replacement tubes. The beauty of each of our LED replacement bulbs is that they contain their own individual, silent power supplies inside the actual tubes – – known as an LED “driver” – – which is a do-able achievement because of the integrated solid-state circuitry of LED electronic lighting. Some customers prefer external LED drivers which we also provide when an extended 100,000 hour bulb life is desired.
Since direct access to electricity poses safety issues when converting a fluorescent fixture, it’s recommended to engage the services of a qualified electrician. Not a deal-breaker!…as the cost should be minimal compared to the upside advantages that our LED tubes’ estimated 50,000 hours life-expectancy (5x the life of a fluorescent tube) provide – – as well as the approximate 50 percent annual energy cost savings benefit. Allow for additional labor expense when going the external, stand-alone LED driver route as the old fluorescent ballast must be removed and replaced with the LED external version. So, out with the old and in with the new!
What is CRI or Color Rendering Index?

One of them is the “CRI factor,” which stands for Color Rendering Index. It should not be overlooked when assessing the many merits of an LED light bulb’s effectiveness.
In simple terms, the CRI of any given light source (such as an LED U Shape tube light) is its ability to reveal any given object in its “realistic” or natural color as compared to a commonly recognizable light source of reference, such as a man-made incandescent light or natural daylight. It’s measured on a scale of 0-100 and the higher the CRI, the better the quality of its ability to render the most accurate color result. As an example, a lighting resource with an 85-90 CRI count is regarded as a “good” color performer. A 90+ rating is indicative of an excellent lighting achiever of precise color distribution on any given target.
